SorillanoShe came in yesterday afternoon, with mother in tow, bent on a personal mission: to personally convey her heartfelt thanks.

Romana Irene Sorillano, a BS Nursing graduate of the University of Perpetual Help System couldn’t wait to visit the AFPEBSO and express her gratitude for its role in her education, and her subsequent passing of the 2009 Philippine Nursing Licensure Exams (NLE).

Ms. Sorillano is one of 27 other AFPEBSO grantees that passed the NLE.  Six are grantees from Luzon, 16 from Mindanao, 4 from NCR, and 1 from Visayas. The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reports that a total of 37,527 out of 94, 462 passed the NLE given by the Board of Nursing last November 2009.

Another NLE passer from the EBSO family is Charity Fatima Estrada from Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) in Zamboanga City. She is one of our top students and recently graduated cum laude. She currently serves as the President of Kabataang Aktibo at Nagkakaisang Anak ng Bayani (KAANIB)- Western Mindanao Chapter. KAANIB is the community-based youth organization of military dependents receiving educational grants from the AFPEBS.

The Biblical account in Luke Chapter 17:11-19 tells about the ten men whom Jesus healed of leprosy. One came back, “praising God in a loud voice.  He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him…” (New International Version).

Grantees from Western Visayas Region pose for a group photo

“They made me realize how blessed I am for having a father who is a protector of our nation and how privileged I am to become an AFPEBS grantee”, a participant shared after attending the 2-day live-in Leadership Seminar organized by our team from the AFP Educational Benefit System Office last 29-30 January at St. Clement’s Retreat House, Lapaz, Iloilo City.

We were very much delighted to be with and get to know the 48 current and graduate scholars who travelled from other parts of Iloilo and even from far away provinces of Aklan, Capiz, Antique and Negros Occidental only to attend our seminar.

During the Boodle Fight

We definitely had no dull moment and the whole seminar area was constantly filled with fun and thrill as our scholars actively engaged themselves in lectures and discussions, enthusiastically participated in games and other teambuilding activities, proudly shared and exhibited their skills and talents during group presentations and merrily socialized with us and their fellow scholars.
