"As I stared at Tatay inside his white coffin. I was not sure it it was peace and contentment that I saw. I turned to look at my little sister, and in her I saw a young angel with broken wings. I began to ask what lies ahead for us now?

   I look at Tatay once again, the flag and the medal on his coffin made me feel prouder that he was my father... but I kept on wondering who will then save and protect my family now that he has died to save and protect others' lives? Who would help us achieved our dreams?

   I looked at Tatay one last time, and as they lay him down to his final resting place, I finally thanked him for being the father, the man, and most importantly, the HERO that he was to us."

   The words above is an excerpt from a letter sent by a soldier's orphan in TALA Magazine (published by AFP). The orphan's letter reflects the unfortunate reality that confronts the families of our soldier who have given their lives in order to protect our freedom, secure our future, our way of life... of our soldiers who have placed their responsibilities to their families next only to their duty to our country.

   The sender of the letter above is just one among the thousand other orphans whose futures become uncertain with the death of their fathers, who more often than not are their family's sole breadwinner. We can help these orphans realize their dreams.
